5 tips to healthy glowing skin

Everyone wants a flawless healthy skin and it is not an overnight miracle. At Maeraki, we have compiled 5 essential tips that we have tried, tested and are supported by various studies to achieve a stunning looking skin:

Eat healthy nutrient dense wholefood

There is a saying you are what you eat. It is no secret that one of the most important factors to stunning skin is to nourish your body with minerals and vitamins. Vitamin A, C, E, Zinc and Collagen have always been hailed as essential nutrients for beauty where these nutrients contribute to the maintenance of healthy skin and protects the cells from free radical damage. Thus, always consume wholefood that are rich in these essential nutrients and cutting down on processed food and sugar. High sodium and sugar diet has been shown to have a direct correlation in speeding up the effects of aging.

As easy as it sounds to eat more wholefood, it can be challenging to obtain the right amount of nutrients just through our normal daily food intake thus taking wholefood natural supplement on top of our daily food consumption will provide the boost in nutrients that our bodies require.

Drink a lot of water

Although there are many debates in the recent years that drinking a lot of water will not hydrate our skin, the truth is water actually hydrates the cells and is necessary in order for the body to function at its optimum level. Human body is made up of 65% of water and there will be water loss from just our breath and sweat. Hence, drinking enough water will ensure the body receives sufficient fluid to compensate for the loss of water in order to distribute the nutrients to the other parts of the body and facilitate nutrient absorption.

Get your beauty sleep

A minimum 7 hours of sleep every day is recommended. Studies have shown that lack of sleep contributes to wrinkles, dark eye circles, dull looking skin and elevates the cortisol level in the human body. High cortisol levels will lead to acne, slower healing on injuries and thinning of the skin. During sleep, the body rejuvenates, repairs the cells and stimulates collagen formation which are essential for healthy skin.

Establish a good skincare routine

A good skincare regime along with a healthy lifestyle is inevitably a holistic approach to overall beautiful glowing skin. The three most important skincare steps are to cleanse, moisturise and protect.

Cleansers are important in removing any oil, dirt and cosmetic make up from our face but often times we tend to over cleanse the face which will strip off the natural oil from our skin that causes our skin to dehydrate. Everyone’s skin is a little different to one and another so understanding our skin type comes first. Following that, we can then incorporate a proper cleansing regime into our skincare routine where it fits best.

Moisturiser is imperative in keeping our skin hydrated. Moisturiser works by trapping the water in the outermost layer of the skin and preventing the harmful elements from the environment from penetrating the skin to cause irritation or dryness.

Lastly to protect our skin from sun damage, sunscreen is a must. Long term exposure to ultraviolet light and sun light will cause photoaging - fine lines, pigmentation and wrinkles. One of the most important factors in choosing the right sunscreen is the SPF. SPF stands for sun protection factor and majority of the sunscreens sell in the market are SPF 30 and SPF 50. SPF 30 blocks 96.7% of the UV light whereas SPF 50 blocks 98% of the UV light. The sunscreen only lasts two hours and thus reapplying the sunscreen every 2 hours is advisable if you are frequently exposed under the sun.

Exercise

Studies suggest that exercise is one of the most important factors to a healthy body. Exercise has been proven to increase the blood flow in the human body which is vital in transporting the nutrients and oxygen that are required to nourish the cells of the skin.

The pores in our skin dilate from the heat of the workout and the sweats will flush out the environment pollutions or excess oil that are trapped within the pores. However, remember to rinse your face after a good work out session to prevent the sweat from settling back into the skin along with the pollutants. Exercise also releases endorphins that makes you feel good post workout which reduces your stress level (reduction in cortisol) and improves your quality of sleep where both are important aspects for stunning looking skin.
